Here is what the author says:

The concept for this book originated in the search for a design text that would fit the needs of my own students. Although there were plenty of great books on the subject, none seemed to address the topic with interactive media in mind, nor did they take into consideration the learning styles of the kind of students that were attracted to communication through a blend of the artistic and technology.

After examining dozens of texts, I learned that the book these students needed had not yet been written and it might not see print for sometime. For me there was no choice; if I was going to help provide the best education I could, then I would have to write the book myself. (So I did.)
