Here is what the publisher says:
Finally, a book on Web technologies written by a designer, not a programmer! Today's design marketplace demands that graphic designers understand the fundamental capabilities of core Web technologies like Cascading Style Sheets, JavaScript, and XML. But what designer wants to wrestle with complicated technical concepts? In Exploring Web Technologies for Designers, James Bennett demystifies the technology and gives graphic designers a thorough understanding of how to use it, without filling their heads with the unnecessary jargon and technical details of traditional computer books. With a graphics-intensive approach that will appeal to the visual nature of designers and a straightforward writing style, Bennett's book is a must-have resource for anyone looking to master the incredible design potential of today's Web technologies.

Here is what the author says:
After the success of my first book Design Fundamentals for New Media, many of my students requested that I write a second text covering the major technologies used in the design of Web sites. They all said that all of the books they could find on the subject were written more for programmers than designers.
As an educator I had to agree with them.
Want they wanted was a book that did not force them to read hundreds of pages of technical details they would never use. Instead they wanted a book that focused on the needs of designers, a text that was easy to read with clear explanations, and something that could be used as a resource when they were working on real sites.
Exploring Web Technologies for Designers was written with those needs in mind.
